Blind and Low Vision Resource Group - Karen Peltz Strauss
Local experts in the low vision community will speak on unique topics at each meeting. People who are blind or have low vision, and anyone wishing to know more about low vision resources, are welcomed and encouraged to attend. This program is sponsored by the Talking Book service at Arlington Public Library.
Feb. 14: In February we will be hearing from Karen Peltz Strauss, who, for the past four decades, has been a leading disability advocate. Karen drafted and advocated for various landmark accessibility laws, including those requiring audio description, closed captioning, equipment distribution for people who are deaf-blind, and accessible communications and video products and services. Karen spent 11 of these years overseeing the Federal Communications Commission’s disability policy as its deputy bureau chief of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau. Included among the many laws Karen has written are portions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the 21st Century Communication and Video Accessibility Act of 2010. She will be discussing telecommunications and accessibility.
The Arlington Public Library uses subject matter experts from a variety of sources to provide educational public programs. We do not endorse, suggest or recommend a specific company, product or service.
