About the film: The movie begins as standard-issue World War II fare, with the British showing their stiff upper lips and the Germans being efficiently evil. The story, however, is true and compelling: Violette, a young Englishwoman, falls in love with a French officer who’s temporarily stationed near London. They get married and have a daughter. The officer is killed in action, and the woman resigns herself to raising the child alone. When the British government learns that Violette was born in Paris to a French mother and English father and speaks perfect French, agents recruit her for a dangerous mission behind enemy lines.
