SUMMARY:Art Class: Quilling with Naomi Lipsky
DESCRIPTION:Learn the beautiful art of quilling -- "paper filigree" -- with
local artist Naomi Lipsky!\n\nQuilling consists of coiling narrow strips of
paper to form shapes\, which are then assembled into a design. It was most
popular in the 18th and 19th centuries\, and was considered suitable work
for elegant young ladies\, as mentioned in Jane Austen's Sense and
Sensibility. Early uses included ornamenting tea caddies\, candle sconces\,
and deep-set floral designs.\n\nIn this introduction\, participants will
learn about the history of quilling\, how to make basic shapes\, and
assemble them into a design to take home.\n\nNaomi’s award-winning work
has been exhibited in a variety of museums and galleries and has been
featured in art books and other publications. Her exhibit "Quilling\,
Gilding and Judaic Art" is currently on display at Cherrydale
Library.\n\nREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Space is limited.\n\nFor more
 information\, contact 703-228-6330 or email lib-Cherrydale@arlingtonva.us.
