What would a climate-solved Arlington look like?

Presented in partnership with Department of Environmental Services and EcoAction Arlington.

The urgency of climate change is real and can be overwhelming and anxiety-inducing. But spending time and energy in imagining a future in which a problem is already solved can encourage taking action in the present. So, inspired by author Bina Venkataraman’s idea of the Optimist’s Telescope, let’s take a look through the telescope 50 years into Arlington’s future and imagine that we see an Arlington that is successfully combating climate change. What does Arlington look like? How can we each contribute to taking steps and decisions now that will help us get there? Join us for this three-part journey to transform Arlington into a world leader in climate action.

Part 3: Act. Get ideas and inspiration at the Green Community Celebration. Learn how you can make changes at home to help combat climate change, with green renovations, energy efficient technologies, solar energy, rain gardens, and more. Start at Shirlington Library's plaza to see demonstrations and displays of the possibilities, then discover the homes and community spaces in the Green Home and Garden Tour to see those possibilities in action.

The tour is sponsored by Arlington County’s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management, EcoAction Arlington and Virginia Cooperative Extension.

Please note: the celebration at Shirlington Library is free; the Green Community Tour registration costs $5.
