Sidney Poitier Film Festival: "Lilies of the Field"

Discover (or rediscover) some of Sidney Poitier's most famous films.
Sidney Poitier made film history when he became the first Black actor and the first Bahamian-American actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 1963's "Lilies of the Field."
About the Film: Free spirited ex-G.I. and unemployed construction worker Homer Smith stops at a remote farm in the Arizona desert to get water when his car overheats. The farm is being worked by a group of German refugee Catholic nuns, headed by the strict Mother Maria, who believes that Homer has been sent by God to build a much-needed church in the desert.
