Has a ‘Cyber Pearl Harbor’ already happened?

Cybersecurity has evolved largely into an active, ongoing, everyday conflict between nation-states that to date has stopped just short of acts of war. Yet most Americans are only dimly aware of its existence. Can an open society create and use cyberweapons in the absence of such awareness? And can the U.S. successfully counter non-democratic nation-states, such as Russia and China, which use such weapons to control their own people? Why was Stuxnet quite likely most important international event in the Obama administration?

These questions and more will be covered in an eye-opening assessment of a topic shrouded in secrecy, although some of it has surfaced. For example, last year the Russian intelligence services for six months had access to an unbelievable 33,000 corporate and governmental networks in the SolarWinds intrusion. Also covered will be a brief list of steps you can take to protect yourself from cyber intrusions.

Scholar and speaker Tom Manteuffel is a consultant on cybersecurity and has worked with banks, healthcare companies, and the federal government for 30+ years, including 10 spent with the intelligence community.
