Join us for an art and literary-infused watch party.

Book Covers showcases artists and their creative processes, alongside the books and stories that inspired them. This a collaboration between Arlington Arts and Arlington Public Library, the intersection where people, art and ideas meet.

On July 16, get to know Polish-German-American sculptor Zofie King and Nigerian-American painter and illustrator Victor Ekpuk. Discover their creative processes, alongside the books and stories that inspire them.  King takes you on a visual journey which includes Grimm’s fairytales, Stephen King’s psychology of horror and Jonathan Safran Foer’s collage-style writing.  Learn out about Ekpok’s recent commission by the Penguin Random House Publishers to illustrate new covers for one of Africa’s most renowned authors, Chinua Achebe, and find out about his experiences with colonial racism in his homeland Nigeria and the Netherlands. Both artists will be present to take audience questions during the presentation.

RSVP for an event reminder below or on Facebook.

About Zofie King
King is a sculptor who uses found objects with sentimental connotations, which are assembled into new objects reminiscent of cabinets of curiosity. Her art practice is a reflection on how objects connect humans to history, as expressed through the passage of time and cultural symbols, and how they can manipulate perceptions and beliefs.  King has had solo shows at the NVCC Margaret W. Fisher Art Gallery, DC Arts Center, Mount St. Mary’s University Gallery and Hillyer. She is currently a member of the Washington DC sculptor's group.

About Victor Ekpuk
Ekpuk’s art is renowned for his glyph-like paintings and drawings that are inspired by the aesthetic philosophies of indigenous African writing systems and graphic symbols from diverse cultures. His art practice reflects on his experiences as a global contemporary artist as expressed through his numerous illustrations, paintings, sculptures and his fashion label “vekpuk.”  Ekpok’s artworks have been featured in many national and international exhibitions such as the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, 12th Havana Biennial, Dakar Biennial, The Tang Museum, Hood Museum, Fowler Museum, New Museum of Contemporary Art and the 1st Johannesburg Biennial. His artworks are in such prestigious collections as the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African Art, North Carolina Museum of Art, Brooks Museum, Newark Museum, Hood Museum and Krannert Art Museum.
