Intrigued by how and why gender expression is changing? What does that have to do with power? Our expert panel will lead a thought-provoking discussion around issues related to gender, language, and power in 2020 and beyond.

• Is there a gender spectrum? What does it look like?
• How do language and gender intersect positively and negatively?
• How will we see gender and language playing out practically and politically?

Juliana Martinez is Assistant Professor of Cultural Studies, and Gender and Sexuality at American University. Research interests include gender and sexual diversity, Latin American feminism, and the intersection of body politics, ethics, and aesthetics. She is also research director of Sentiido—a communications and research initiative that advances gender and sexual rights in Colombia.

Bonnie Stabile is an Associate Professor in the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, where she is Director of the Master of Public Policy (MPP) program. She is Founder and Director of the Gender and Policy (GAP) Center. Her book "Women, Power and Rape Culture: The Politics and Policy of Underrepresentation", will be released next year.

Perry Zurn is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at American University. He researches broadly in political philosophy, social change theory, transgender studies, and curiosity studies. He is the co-founder of the Trans Philosophy Project and a researcher and advocate for trans-inclusive policies in higher education.

Panel moderator Diane Kresh is director of Arlington’s public library, a job she has held since April 2006. She was raised in Arlington, VA. She is a mother of two sons, Matt and Nate, and wife of Colleen Donnelly.
