Censorship in Azerbaijan: A Conversation with Katherine Young

Banned Book Week is the perfect time to learn about censorship issues around the world.
Please join us for an evening with former Arlington County Poet Laureate, Katherine E. Young as she discusses her recent translation of "Farewell, Aylis: A Non-traditional Novel in Three Works" by Azerbaijani author, Akram Aylisli.
Aylisli, once decorated by the President of Azerbaijan, now lives in Baku under de facto house arrest after publication of "Stone Dreams," his novella that depicts betrayal, ethnic cleansing, and corruption in ways that are uncomfortable for the Azerbaijani authorities. "Stone Dreams" is one of the three novellas that make up "Farewell, Aylis."
Katherine E. Young is the author of "Day of the Border Guards," a collection of poetry set in Russia and former countries of the Soviet Union.
This event is part of our celebration of Banned Books Week, Sept. 22-28.
