About the authors
Forrest Pritchard is the New York Times–bestselling author of "Gaining Ground, A Story of Farmers’ Markets, Local Food, and Saving the Family Farm", as well as "Growing Tomorrow: Behind the Scenes with 18 Extraordinary Sustainable Farmers Who Are Changing the Way We Eat". A graduate of the College of William & Mary with degrees in English and Geology, Pritchard is also a full-time organic livestock farmer and seventh-generation producer. His books have been named top reads by NPR, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and many more.

Ellen Polishuk is a first-generation sustainable vegetable farmer, holding a degree in Horticulture from Virginia Tech. A self-described “compost queen,” Ellen grew up in the suburbs of Washington DC in the 60s and 70s. In 1992, with five farm seasons under her belt, she was hired by Potomac Vegetable Farms to manage their satellite farm in Virginia. Today she is now one of four women owners of Potomac Vegetable Farms. Ellen is a passionate advocate for the business of farming, having taught at the University of Maryland, as well as being a sought-after farm consultant and conference speaker.
