Learn about the Smithsonian Archives of American Gardens' efforts to preserve garden history.

Archives of American Gardens is a collection of more than 100,000 photographic images, records changing trends, fads, social values and popular gardening styles and traditions. Learn how contributing images, videos, and stories to the Archives, enables historians, landscape architects, artists, designers, and garden enthusiasts to learn the ways that gardens and gardeners of all backgrounds have shaped America’s landscape.

Cindy Brown is the Manager of Horticulture Collections Management and Education at Smithsonian Gardens, a position she has held since 2010. She has worked in the field of horticulture since 1993, beginning her career in a nursery and serendipitously discovering the world of public gardens.

Encore Learning is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2002. They offer a wide variety of college-level noncredit courses, clubs, special events and activities to help meet the continuing educational and social interests of anyone over age 50, regardless of residence location.
