A Look at the Unsung Heroines of the Civil War

To celebrate Women's History Month, join Encore Learning and the Arlington Central Library for a Meet the Speaker series presentation on the activities of a select group of women during the Civil War era.

Bonnie Mangan, Vice President of the Society for Women in the Civil War and a docent at Arlington House and the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office in downtown D.C., will take a look back at the many unsung heroines of the Civil War. Ms. Mangan will share fascinating stories of little-known women who played significant roles as early organizers of support for the troops, as nurses, soldiers, and even spies and spymasters. Her stories about such women and their crucial roles in caring for the troops, arranging logistical support, or passing along secret information to military commanders will expand our knowledge and appreciation of these dedicated heroines of America’s Civil War.

The Arlington Central Library is located at 1015 N. Quincy Street between Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Drive. Parking is free at the Library or take Metro to Virginia Square on the Orange or Silver line.

This program is jointly sponsored by Encore Learning and the Arlington Public Library. No registration required. This event is free and all are welcome.
