SUMMARY:Memorializing the Enslaved in Arlington "Stumbling Stones" Dedication
DESCRIPTION:Memorializing Nann and Bess at Central Library\n\nThe Arlington
Historical Society and the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington invite you to
the unveiling of two “Stumbling Stones.” These bronze markers
commemorate the lives of the enslaved people who helped build our county
(and our country). The markers are placed in the sidewalk at the last known
location where these enslaved people lived. Memorializing the Enslaved in
Arlington’s research has revealed over 2\,000 enslaved people and
identified 1\,050 by name.\n\nPlease join us for the Dedication Ceremony
honoring two once enslaved individuals: Bess (Born ca. 1735) and Nan (Born
ca. 1747). Both Nann and Bess were enslaved by the Triplett family\, who
leased the land (where Central Library now sits) in the 18th century.
\n\nSpeakers include Tim Aiken\, Memorializing the Enslaved Arlington\,
Holly Karapetkova\, Arlington Poet Laureate\, and Scott Taylor\, Black
Heritage Museum of Arlington. \n\nThe dedication ceremony will take place
outdoors at the intersection of N. Quincy Street and 10th Street N. In the
event of rain\, the program will move to the Central Library Auditorium.
\n\nREGISTRATION RECOMMENDED. By registering\, you will receive event
updates and receive weather-related cancellation notifications.\n\nFor more
 information\, contact LocalHistory@arlingtonva.us\n\nThis program is
presented in partnership with Memorializing the Enslaved in Arlington.
