Visible Mending Circle

Come mend and connect in community.
Bring your clothing or textile items and give them new life through visible mending—where repairs are seen and celebrated. Learn alongside Alison Davis-Holland and a friendly team of “Mend-tors” from Art on the Mend, and enjoy meeting new people along the way.
We provide all mending supplies. Just bring your clean clothing or textile items with holes, stains, or worn spots; or practice on our reclaimed textiles. Although we have topics we are learning on specific dates, feel free to bring any of your mending projects just to mend in community.
- March 9: Open Lab. Bring your current mending project to work on, with good company and good conversation. We provide fabric swatches and basic sewing supplies. Volunteer mend-tors from Art on the Mend are available for advice.
- March 16: Sashiko Sampler. Bring any item to strengthen thinned areas or decorate; or with holes or tears to patch over.
- March 23: Open Lab.
- March 30: Wool Felting. Bring any clothes with small holes or thinned areas. Woolen knits are ideal.
- April 6: Open Lab.
- April 13: Embroidery. We'll learn embroidery techniques for patching and covering holes and weak points. Bring clothes with small holes or stains.
- April 20: Open Lab.
- April 27: Visible Mending 101 - Making a Mending Kit & Sashiko Palm Thimble. All of our circles are open to everyone, but this circle is great for people new to mending. Bring a tin or pouch and get started on assembling the basic supplies for your own mending kit. We will review which supplies you need to get started and provide you with a sashiko needle & thread, a threader, and a grip, and we will make a sashiko palm thimble.
- May 4: Open Lab.
- May 11: Microweave Darning. Create a flexible patch for knits by hand and/or with a speed weaver loom, to cover holes or thinned areas.
- May 18: Open Lab.
All of our visible mending is handwork - not with sewing machines.
No experience needed. Ages 14+ recommended because we will be handling sharp needles.
REGISTRATION RECOMMENDED. By registering, you will receive event updates. First-come, first-served seating.
