Arlington Reads: Ashanté Reese, "Black Food Geographies"

Arlington Reads Stirs It Up!
For 2026, Arlington Reads turns 20 and Arlington Public Library will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States by looking at American life, history and culture through the lens of food. Join us for a conversation with Dr. Ashanté M. Reese.
Dr. Ashanté M. Reese will discuss the intersection of critical food studies and Black geographies, examining the ways Black people produce and navigate food-related spaces. Learn everyday strategies Black people employ while navigating inequity. Black Food Geographies: Race, Self- Reliance, and Food Access in Washington, D.C. takes up these themes through an exploration of antiblackness and food access, winning the 2020 Best Monograph Award from the Association for the Study of Food and Society and 2020 Margaret Mead Award jointly awarded by the American Anthropological Association and the Society for Applied Anthropology.
The author's presentation will be followed with a book signing. Books are available for pre-order purchase through One More Page Book at this link.
