Dr. David Powers Corwin (they/them) from George Mason University will focus on how it is possible to support the elimination of discrimination of those who do not fit society's traditional view about gender and sexuality. They will do this by discussing a variety of points regarding media, history, culture, and literacy. Q&A to follow.

About the Presenter: 

Dr. David Powers Corwin (they/them) hails from Front Royal ,VA, and still lives in Winchester, VA, as a proud Appalachian. They are a liberal-arts educated professor who sees curricular activism as a form of social change. They hold a PhD in Writing and Rhetoric and MAs in Women and Gender Studies and English from George Mason University and a BA in English and Humanities from Milligan University.  They are currently an assistant professor of integrative studies at GMU where they teach courses and conduct research on gender and sexuality studies; television studies; friendship studies; trauma rhetoric; qualitative research methods; and Appalachian Studies. They also led the effort to develop one of the first LGBTQ minors at a public university in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In their free time, they love reading, writing, coffee shops, breweries, time with friends, and random conversations with folx they find in all of these places.
