We look forward to seeing you all online!

In August of 2005, Suzette Walker, a lifetime resident of New Orleans, was excited about an upcoming cruise with her daughter, swearing nothing would stop her from realizing this dream. Hurricane Katrina had other plans for her. A Katrina Story tells how one woman survived the destruction, isolation, and uncertainty of this monstrous storm, relying on her faith and determination.  But A Katrina Story goes beyond Suzette’s frightening evacuation from the roof of her building. It addresses what happened to one victim lucky enough to survive the ravages of nature and rebuild her life. It tells of many who reached out to help her- the stranger who transported her for food and shelter, the crisis workers and volunteers who risked their lives to save others, and one relentless counselor who wouldn’t give up on Suzette. It tells of her relocation to the DMV area that enabled success over personal demons and a new life of balance and joy. It’s a story of survival over adversity, of unshakable faith, of community’s protection of its own, and of caring strangers welcoming storm survivors rebuilding and restarting their lives.
