Arlington Reads: Anna Malaika Tubbs

Celebrate James Baldwin's Centennial and Women's History Month with this Arlington Reads Signature Author Event
Join us for a conversation between author Anna Malaika Tubbs and Library Director Diane Kresh about Tubbs' work, "The Three Mothers." In her groundbreaking and essential debut, scholar Anna Malaika Tubbs celebrates Black motherhood by telling the story of the three women who raised and shaped some of America's most pivotal heroes: Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin. These three mothers taught resistance and a fundamental belief in the worth of Black people to their sons, even when these beliefs flew in the face of America’s racist practices and led to ramifications for all three families’ safety. The fight for equal justice and dignity came above all else for the three mothers.
This author talk is part of the 2024 Arlington Reads spring series, "James Baldwin Centennial," which celebrates what would have been James Baldwin's 100th birthday in August 2024 with a series of authors whose work is about or influenced by James Baldwin.
The conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Copies of the book will be available for sale, courtesy of One More Page Books.
RSVP for an event reminder email. Attendance is first-come, first-served until seating capacity is reached. The event will also be livestreamed and available as a recording for 30 days on Arlington County's Youtube channel; please RSVP to receive the online link.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with a prelude performance by the Macedonia Baptist Church Singers.
