Women in the French Resistance

Author Monique Saigal, a child Holocaust survivor, wrote "French Heroines, 1940-1945: Courage, Strength and Ingenuity," to honor the courageous women who perished at Auschwitz - including her own grandmother.

The collection features 18 women who are little known, yet who stand out because of their extraordinary courage during the German occupation of France during World War II. when they risked their lives by engaging in clandestine activities to overcome the Nazis.

About the author:

Dr. Monique Saigal was born in Paris, France before the break out of WWII. She moved to California at the age of 17 where she attended the University of California in Los Angeles and received her B.A, M.A and PhD in French lit. She is retired now from Pomona College in Claremont, California where she first taught Spanish for several years, as well as French language, literature, films and culture for 45 years.
