Panel Discussion on the Economic Forces Shaping America

Featuring Panelists:

  • Libby Garvey, Chair, Arlington County Board
  • Victor Hoskins, Director, Arlington Economic Development
  • Alessandra Colia, Executive Director, The Urban Alliance

If there’s one thing that we know, it’s that different parts of the country view their lives and economic status in very varied ways. That same divergence can be evidenced in the workplace. Some regions, like Arlington, brand themselves as technology hubs. Others are manufacturing centers. Still others focus on agriculture. But despite a hub status that may exist, those who thrive in other workplace sectors can indeed thrive in any area.

That’s the theory behind author Enrico Moretti’s “The New Geography of Jobs,” and it coincides with Arlington’s own philosophy of inclusion. Join County Board Chair Libby Garvey, Arlington Economic Development Director Victor Hoskins and Alessandra Colia (other panelist to be added) for a lively discussion surrounding the economic forces that are shaping America and its regions and how things like innovation are truly fundamental when it comes to economic development. Learn just how Arlington leaders and businesses apply theories like those discussed by Moretti and turn those theories into thriving economic growth while at the same time celebrating and utilizing individual strengths throughout the community to their fullest.
